"Black Adam" is introduced to the world by Dwayne Johnson.

Dwayne Johnson expressed his desire for Black Adam, an antihero, to "usher in a new age in the DC Universe" at Comic-Con.

Black Adam always intended to alter the DC universe.

Exclusive: Dwayne Johnson describes how the creation of the JSA and Black Adam are just the beginning of a much larger "Black Adam Universe."

The journey to the big screen for Black Adam has been a long one. For around 15 years, Dwayne Johnson has been linked to the job.

And the renowned action movie star has turned it into a bit of a passion project.

While Johnson is thrilled to finally be donning his recognisable black suit, there is a much larger scheme in motion.

A significant first step is to introduce Black Adam to the DC Extended Universe, something to which Johnson has devoted over ten years.

-he is also entirely focused on the significance of bringing the first live-action JSA to the big screen.

In Black Adam's interpretation of the oldest superhero team in comics, Doctor Fate and Hawkman, played by Pierce Brosnan and Aldis Hodge, respectively, are joined by Cyclone and Atom Smasher, two young upstarts (Noah Centineo).

Johnson has the ability to try something completely fresh in the superhero genre because Black Adam has never been portrayed in live action.

I like that there was no allusion, he says. "We have a chance to start from scratch."

Johnson has big plans for the "Black Adam Universe" that go far beyond the film from this year.

The actor and producer found it thrilling to have the opportunity to delve further into the DC canon and uncover all the "strange and complex" characters.
